Can We Speak on Sickle Cell Awareness in Nigeria?

Sickle Cell is a condition that causes red blood cells to take on a crescent-shaped, similar to curved blade of a sickle, inhibiting proper use of iron and oxygen in the blood and causing severe pain and even death.

September is the month for Sickle Cell Awareness. Yet little is being done to raise awareness for Sickle Cell in Nigeria.

The silent treatment giving to the prevalence of Sickle Cell Disease in Nigeria is unjustifiable.

According to the World Health Organization the prevalence level of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in Nigeria is between 20% and 30%, a figure that calls for more awareness and prevention of further cases of Sickle Cell Disease.

We can do more for Sickle Cell Awareness by speaking about Sickle Cell to our contacts on social media with all or any of these hash tags: #SickleCellAwareness #SickleCellEducation #SpeakOnSickleCell etc.

You can amplify awareness of Sickle Cell Anemia by supporting the mandate of organizations like the Sickle Cell Aid Foundation in Nigeria.

Think about people living with Sickle Cell Disease in Nigeria

Think of all the common diseases in Nigeria and how they affect people with normal blood cell than imagine what live feels like for someone living with Sickle Cell in the heart of Malaria, Diarrheal, Pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract diseases that usually common with children.

You don’t want to be the cause of any new case of Sickle Cell Disease in Nigeria or any part of the world.

Shine your light for people living with Sickle Cell Disease by promoting Sickle Cell Awareness in Nigeria.

As we celebrate the United Nation’s Day of Peace today, we should all stand in brotherhood and create awareness to eradicate Sickle Cell Disease from our sovereign motherland.
