World oldest person Misao Okawa from Japan dies after celebrating her 117th birthday.

The formal Japanese super centenarian woman who was the world's oldest living person has died today, a few weeks after celebrating her 117th birthday.

Okawa who was born in Osaka on 5 March 1898, was recognized as the world’s oldest person by Guinness World Records in 2013.

Tomohiro Okada, who worked at her nursing home in Osaka, said: “She went so peacefully, as if she had just fallen asleep. We miss her a lot.”
