Nigeria Today! Dasuki Granted Bail, EFCC To Invite Okonjo-Iweala, Others In The News

DASUKI, 4 OTHERS GRANTED BAIL



A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has granted bail to former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki, and four others standing trial for alleged money laundering and criminal breach of trust.


Others standing trial over a 19-count charge preferred against them include, a former director of finance at the office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu, a former Group General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Aminu Baba Kusa and two firms, Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Reference Hospital.


Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf granted bail to the accused persons on the sum of N250 Million on the condition that they produce a surety each who must be a serving or retired civil servant not lower than the rank of a director.



The civil servant must also show possession of a property within the FCT worth the same amount, the judge ordered.


All the accused were also asked to deposit copies of their International passports with the court registrar. They are to also notify the court of any travel arrangement outside the FCT.


Mr. Dasuki is accused of mis-spending about $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of weapons for the fight against extremist group, Boko Haram. He denies wrongdoing.



ARMS DEAL: EFCC TO INVITE OKONJO-IWEALA, OTHERS




The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that it will invite top officials in the Goodluck Jonathan administration that had a hand in the disbursement of funds related to the arms purchase.


According to Vanguard Newspapers, a top EFCC source said top on the list is the former Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy in the last Administration, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.


This is coming on the heels of the anti-graft agency’s resolve to re-open the case of the former Rivers state Governor, Dr. Peter Odili.

Reports say Odili allegedly received N100m from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

The former Governor has since debunked saying he collected N100m from the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Dr Adamu Muazu and not Dasuki.

Okonjo-Iweala was accused of illegally disbursing funds to the former National Security Adviser.


DIEZANI ALISON-MADUEKE NOT DEAD– AIDE


Former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke is not dead as being speculated yesterday in the digital and social media, an aide, Mr Kevin Alanso has said.


Alanso who served as her adviserwhenshe was Minister, dismissed her death rumours in a text message to THEWILL.

The former Minister is undergoing chemotherapy in a London hospital for a malignant cancer.



BEN CARSON CANCELS AFRICA TRIP, CITES SECURITY CONCERNS


Republican U.S. presidential candidate Ben Carson canceled a trip planned for later this month to Africa that would have taken him to Nigeria, Kenya and Zambia due to what his campaign on Thursday called significant security concerns.

Campaign spokesman Doug Watts confirmed that the trip, scheduled for after the Christmas holiday next week, has been canceled. The campaign did not offer details about the nature of the security concerns.
