Jonathan asks Nigerians to pray more for Buhari

National Christian Centre, Abuja - President Goodluck Jonathan employed Nigerians on Sunday to pray for the incoming government of Muhammadu Buhari.

Jonathan said the incoming government needed more prayers now because any decision taken by its officials would have a lasting effect on the nation while he would only be taking personal decisions henceforth.

The President told the congregation which included the Vice President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and his wife, Dolapo, at his 2015 presidential thanksgiving and inauguration interdenominational church service, that the dreams of the Nigeria's founding fathers can not be achieved without the help of God.

"Pray for me, my wife and family, members of my government, ministers and others as we leave.

"But you should even pray more for the incoming government because we are leaving, probably to go and manage our private businesses. They are coming in to manage the whole country, so they require more prayer.

"I am leaving and will be taking decisions that will be affecting me. If they do any mistake, it will affect the whole nation. So I call on you to pray for this incoming government for them to succeed. All we want for this nation is good governance, unity and peace.

"We can't achieve these without the help of God."
