AERO DISEMBARKS PASSENGERS WITH LADDER: MINISTER ORDERS INVESTIGATION, PROMISES TO SANCTION AIRLINE



The Minister of State for Aviation,  Hadi Sirika directed an immediate investigation into the use of an unauthorized equipment by Aero Contractors Airlines at the conclusion of a charter flight to Bauchi on Saturday.


Sirika who made the statement in a press release signed by his Deputy Director, Press and Public Affairs, James Odaudu, said the act is inconsistent with Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS).


His statement reads, “Several reports received by the Honourable Minister have indicated the airline used a ladder to disembark passengers from a Boeing 737 aircraft at the Bauchi airport on Saturday December 19th 2015. the act is inconsistent with Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS).



The investigation will determine the immediate and remote causes of the incident with a view to developing and implementing measures that will prevent a reoccurrence of the unsafe and unacceptable procedure that exposed passengers to high risk of serious injury."


He reiterated that if the airline is found culpable, the full weight of sanctions within extant laws and regulations would be applied on it.”


Sirika assures the traveling public that the Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will ensure strict adherence to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations as well as ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices by all operators.


He concluded that that the ministry will not shriek in its responsibility to ensure a safe and secure air transport services which he views as sacrosanct.



2016: LABOUR LEADERS MUST PROTECT WORKERS AGAINST FG’s ANTI-PEOPLE POLICIES – FAYOSE



Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has urged labour leaders in the country to protect the interests of Nigerians, especially their members against government’s anti-people policies, saying; “Labour leaders must not allow the welfare of the people to be compromised.”


Governor Fayose, who was speaking against the backdrop of the plan by the federal government to increase petrol pump price from N87 to N97 per litre, remove fuel subsidy, increase electricity tariffs, retrench thousands of workers, reduce N18, 000 minimum wage, introduce toll gate, among others, said, “If labour leaders do not stand up for the people at this time as they have done in the past, posterity will not forgive them.”


SISTER OF BAYELSA STATE GOV. SERIAKE DICKSON KIDNAPPED



The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed that armed men on Saturday kidnapped the sister of the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson at Okaka Road within the state capital.


Nancy Dickson was said to have been kidnapped in broad daylight by four armed men who trailed her to her shop.


The gunmen stormed the shop and whisked her away to an unknown destination along with her salesgirl.


Police Public Relations Officer, Ansim Butswat, who confirmed the incident said that the Police were on top of the situation.
